Why ‘Minecraft’ VR Via The Oculus Rift Is Not For Children

Minecraft is a very successful and popular title from game developer Mojang. Though the initial release was still in 2011, the game has beat all odds and is played until now. Moreover, it is played by different types of players and from various age groups. The game is now getting what is arguably the most exciting update since its inception. That is, a virtual reality feature.

Minecraft has been available on the Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita and Wii U for years now. It has also been available for playing on Microsoft Windows, OS X, Linux, Android and iOs for quite some time.

According to C|Net, Minecraft is available in VR only through Facebook's Oculus Rift Headset. "We'd like to welcome you to the game all over again," said Mike McGrath, one of Minecraft's developers. "It's a fantastic new experience in VR, even if you're a Minecraft veteran." Unless players already purchased the Minecraft for personal computers, however, it will cost $10.

In Minecraft VR, gamers have the opportunity to explore the 3D world as if they actually lived in it. They will need to dig for resources in order to build their shelters and craft weapons in order to defend themselves.

However, there is still the creative mode, which is much more prefered by children. But other than players being widely immersed in the Minecraft world, even with its dangers, there is another reason why kids may not prefer this type of platform.

As noted by Tom's Hardware, Minecraft VR features a support for the keyboard and mouse, as well as the Xbox One. This alone can prove to be difficult for young children and may cause headaches and dizzy spells. However, Mojang claims to have made the experience more comfortable by adding snap turning. That is, instead of a smooth spin, the view of the player is rotated automatically by 22 degrees.
