'Assassin's Creed' Movie Update: Damien Walters Performs Actual 125-Foot 'Leap Of Faith'

The movie adaptation of the popular PC game from Ubisoft, Assassin's Creed, impresses fans so far. And currently, the film's director, Justin Kurzel, reveals that they actually performed the 125 foot free-fall or known as the 'Leap of Faith' without relying on visual effects. Kurzel said that he wanted to bring a sense of realism to the film's adaptation of the renowned action series. He also added that he wanted to spend more time on his actors and stunt team rather than in front of the green screen. Based on his revelations, Damien Walters, Michael Fassbender's stunt double, has decided to do the stunt.

According to Polygon, Walter's 125-foot free-fall jump was the first highest jump performed in 35 years. The stunt team, including Walters himself, worked out the whole duration of the day on the logistics of the 125-feet drop that will ultimately land on the 10-by-10 meters of inflatable pad. The team performed the jump step by step and increases the height gradually for a safer attempt. Walters has done 2 attempts before jumping on the actual height of 125-feet (first was 70 feet then followed by 90 feet.)

According to Screen Crush, using CGI would work effortlessly but nothing can compare to the real thing. Having a practical stunt lends some realism to these specific sequences. The report also adds that the crew still needs to integrate CGI into the jump for the film but with this actual stunt brings a new feel to the scene especially the fans.

Based on the released trailer, the movie will hit the big screens this coming December

Kurzel and his team still got few more months left to finalize each and every detail of the movie. Hopefully, the delivery of the movie can match the fans' expectations, which is also the main goal of Kurzel and his crew.
