WWDC 2012: What to Expect (and Not to Expect)

WWDC 2012 is set to take place from June 11-15 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. The Worldwide Developer's Conference (WWDC) is an annual event held by Apple, which showcases their newest products and features numerous workshops and seminars related to all things tech and Apple.

The lead up to this year's WWDC has filled to the apple core with rumors and speculation about what we may witness at WWDC, and what announcements Apple will have in store for us. Here's what to expect, and not to expect, from Apple at this year's WWDC.

What to Expect

New Hardware ~ On the hardware scene, it looks like we'll see new versions of the Mac Pro and MacBook Pro, with more powerful hardware and upgrades, like the MacBook Pro's Retina Display, Ivy Bridge processor and USB 3.0 port.

Expect a new iMac model to also make a WWDC appearance, featuring a much needed internal upgrade.

New Software ~ First up on the software side is their new map app with 3D mapping capabilities, which should replace Google Maps on their iOS devices.

Siri is also likely to receive enhanced support with the release of an API that will make it available for other developer's iOS and OS X applications. And on that front, expect big announcements of iOS 6 and OS X Mountain Lion, which will each come loaded with a slew of new features and upgrades.

What Not to Expect

iPhone 5 ~ Don't expect the much-anticipated announcement of the iPhone 5. While Apple CEO Tim Cook has said they will blow people away with their announcements and unveilings at WWDC 2012, they will do so without the reveal of their most anticipated product, which will likely see its grand unveiling this fall in its own dedicated event.

Apple TV ~ While it seems it's only a matter of time before Apple takes the plunge into the world of televisions, that doesn't seem likely to occur at WWDC 2012. What we can expect in the future though is a launch product that will seamlessly integrate many of the features of their Apple TV Box, allowing streaming of various specialty channels, and access to the app store directly from the TV.
