'Blair Witch' 2016: Official Trailer Made Us Stay Out Of The Woods For Good

On San Diego Comic Con 2016, Director Adam Wingard showed us a trailer for a movie called 'The Woods', but to everyone's surprise, it was actually a sequel to the 1999 cult hit 'The Blair Witch Project' according to Polygon.

Simply titled the 'Blair Witch', the sequel plans to follow the blueprint of the original movie. The combination of creepiness and adrenaline pumping scenes are what stands out if the 2016 trailer of 'Blair Witch' is any indication. One scene in particular which features a woman crawling through a really tight and muddy tunnel trying desperately to escape from something or someone. Another notable thing you can see from the trailer are the use of wooden sticks which was very prominent in the original Blair Witch movie. The iconic shake handheld shots, frantic running around, and constant screaming looks like it is going to be a great homage to its indie film roots.

If we forget the much maligned 'Book of Shadows: Blair witch 2' released in 2000 (which we definitely should), Director Adam Wingard wants to give the revolutionary cult classic a much deserving sequel. The new 'Blair Witch' movie will supposedly answer a lot of questions that the original movie left us. It will also give us some insights regarding the famous last shot scene of the female protagonist.

It will remain to be seen if the genre that 'The Blair Witch Project' kick started 17 years ago can still have that same spine-tingling effect to audiences today. The popularity it created resulted in a plethora of similarly themed films that has started to become a bit stale in recent years. But looking at Adam Wingard's great track record in horror movies, we can be hopeful that our return to Black Hills woods can transport us back to the chilling and heart-stopping nature of the little indie film we witnessed in 1999.

'Blair Witch' is slated for release on September 16, 2016.
