OnePlus To Provide Faster Software Updates With Hydrogen OS and Oxygen OS

As a relatively smaller player in the smartphone market, there may not be such high expectations for the OnePlus units. And yet, the company's devices have fought tooth and nail against the most high-end handhelds that the market currently has to offer. However, if there is one thing the company can afford to work on, it is the operating systems.

Oxygen and Hydrogen OS

Currently, OnePlus enrolls the help of either the Oxygen OS or the Hydrogen OS for its units. The difference, according to Android Community, lies primarily in user preference. In China, where the units are produced, the Oxygen OS us in place. However, the rest of the world, which is used to Android, is given the Hydrogen OS. More specifically, the Hydrogen OS uses more pastel colors and larger icons. Furthermore, the transitions are more visually appealing as opposed to the more edgy changes found in the Oxygen OS alternative.

The Problem

While there is no real problem with either of the operating systems, there is definite room for improvement. As Tech Times notes, the real dilemma is in the time between OS upgrades. Fortunately for OnePlus X and OnePlus 3 owners, this is all about to change.

The Solution

OnePlus has decided to merge the Oxygen and Hydrogen operating systems together. Theoretically, this will allow updates to come closer between each other. Of course, the company will need to partner the two together in such a way that will appease its two different sets of customers. After all, the different preferences are why the company put the practice into place in the first place.

The benefits, however, far outweigh the immediate difficulty. Other than the faster updates that OnePlus will be able to provide its users, the company will have an easier time as well. The upkeep of one OS, after all, will be far easier than the maintenance and development of two.
