Samsung Galaxy S3 Release Date Delayed: Verizon Subscribers May Have to Wait Till July 10

It seems the Galaxy S3 is not quite ready for the eager hands of Verizon customers, as its release date has been pushed back yet again.

Now before too much hand-wringing and gnashing of teeth ensues, let's be clear that it's only been pushed back by a single day, from the once-expected release date of July 9, to now being expected July 10 (though some other reports have it possibly not launching until July 12).

This is however the second launch delay for the Galaxy S3 on Verizon's network, as it was originally expected to launch in late June around the same time as its competitors AT&T (June 18) and Sprint (June 21). There was no news regarding any delays for the launch of the Galaxy S3 with those carriers.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 has already launched in some areas of the world, to much fanfare, including the U.K, India, and Australia. It is one of the most anticipated and pre-ordered handsets for 2012, with pre-orders topping 9 million units, according to a May report in the Korea Economic Daily, which also stated that Samsung's South Korean smartphone factory was running at maximum capacity, churning out 5 million phones per month.

Verizon's variant of the S3 will come without the 50 GB Dropbox storage that the phone will come with on some other carriers. It's suspected the reasoning behind this is that Verizon plans to launch its own cloud storage service in the future. What it will have is a future update that will allow it to roam on the 2G and 3G networks of other providers worldwide, allowing conversation around the world, though Verizon hasn't announced when this update will be available.

The carrier is currently accepting pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy S3, and is selling the 16GB version for $199.99, while the 32GB version goes for $249.99, both of which are subsidized with a 2-year contract. Customers will also have to pay an additional $30 monthly fee for a 4G LTE network data plan that would give users a 2 GB monthly allowance.
