Mozilla To Challenge Safari with its Simplified 'Junior' Browser for iPad

Mozilla is all geared up to battle against Apple's iOS web browser Safari.

This can be said as Firefox desktop Web browser organization has recently revealed that it is working on a new simplified and streamlined browser specifically designed for Apple's iPad tablet and known as "Junior."

According to a video presentation delivered by company's Product Design Strategy team recently, Mozilla has introduced the new project on its 'Air Mozilla' product design page, where it described Junior as "an iPad browser that makes browsing more fun, more ergonomic and re-thinks browser user experience from the ground up."

Moreover, in the presentation video, Mozilla design lead Alex Limi said that Safari on iPad is a "miserable experience" which seemed as if it had simply been brought across from the desktop program wholesale. "We don't think that's the way to do the browser of the future," he said.

Further, the team has explained that the prototype browser fills the iPad's entire canvas and removes the toolbar to give more of a "magazine feel." While they played with the idea of making controls gesture-based, the team ultimately decided to add two buttons, one on either side of the screen. The one on the left acts as a back button, while the one on the right is a plus button that presents users with a list of recent pages, as well as a search screen.

A neat feature is the ability to switch between different user accounts, so if the iPad gets shared around the household a lot, Junior has been made in such a way that the user's own browsing session will remain secure and closed off from others.

Meanwhile, the presentation has given no hints as to when the consumers might be able to get their hands on the new browser. However, they have informed that Junior is still very much in the early prototype stage.
