Acer S5 Ultrabook Hits U.S. in June: Top Features We Love
Acer's S5 ultrabook, touted as the world's thinnest in its category, was among the highlights of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2012. Acer said at the time that the new system will arrive later this year, but no provided no specific date. The wait is now over, however, as Acer has finally announced pricing, availability, and spec details. The new Acer S5 391-9880 will be available from the last week of June in a fixed configuration, with a $1,399 price tag.
The Acer Aspire S5 features a third-generation Intel Core i7-35i7U processor and a solid state drive (SSD) of 256GB. It sports a 13.3-inch widescreen LED-backlit screen with a 1366 x 768-pixel resolution. Ports include USB 3.0, ultrafast Thunderbolt, and HDMI, and the ultrabook also comes with an HDMI to VGA cable adapter.
Touted as the world's thinnest ultrabook, the Aspire S5 measures 0.44 inches at its thinnest and 0.59 at its thickest, and weighs 2.65 pounds. With a thin, lightweight design and black, magnesium-alloy and brushed metal chassis, the ultrabook adds a touch of style as well to its impressive specs.
The Acer Aspire S5 391-9880 is Acer's first ultrabook featuring the MagicFlip I/O, a cunningly designed port panel concealed below the hinge, further enhancing the device's overall aesthetics and streamlined form. Due to the PowerSmart battery pack, the Aspire S5 ultrabook can provide up to three times longer battery life cycles compared to traditional batteries, i.e. 1,000 cycles compared to 300 cycles. Moreover, after the 1,000 cycle count the battery will maintain 80 percent capacity, allowing it to last longer without the need to replace it.
