InFocus Unveils Kangaroo Notebook: A $300 Laptop With Interchangeable Mini-PC Modules

InFocus unveiled its Kangaroo Notebook, an affordable laptop designed with interchangeable mini-PC modules. This latest addition to the Oregon-based company's line of mobile computing devices will be available in October for an introductory price of $299.99.

The notebook contains a laptop shell and two Windows 10 Kangaroo Mini PC modules. This means that two individuals can use the same shell without worrying about the security and privacy of files being accessed. It's available as a packaged bundle but the two PCs have separate security, safety, and storage features.

Unlike other laptops that have multiple user accounts, the Kangaroo Notebook allows two people to insert their module into the laptop for both work and play. They can remove it when they're done and each module has a separate storage, meaning users can take their files with them.

Each module runs on Windows 10 with an Intel Atom x5-Z8350 processor. It includes 2GB of RAM, 32GB of built-in storage and Wi-Fi connectivity. There's a microSD slot for additional storage capacity.

Equipped with an 11.6-inch HD screen, battery, USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports, 3.5 mm audio jack, microphone, speakers, a full keyboard and a Synaptics trackpad, the Kangaroo Notebook is indeed a good deal for its price.

"With Kangaroo Notebook, we put the power to create private, individualized computing experiences directly into the hands of our customers," Ben Chu, head of Kangaroo sales, said in a press release

"The modular design of this new mobile computing bundle gives our customers a different level of flexibility and control over how they want to manage personal computing, particularly in the home," he added.

The company envisions that the new laptop will enable families to share the laptop without compromising its storage. So, adults could use the laptop and storage for productivity applications while kids could use it for games and research.

Unfortunately for those residing outside the U.S., the Kangaroo Notebook won't be accessible just as yet as it will only be available for the North American market and can be ordered through Newegg.com.
