Twitter-Based 2.3 Million Global Users On Its "First NFL Livestream"

If You Want Something Big, Then Go To National Football League!

Twitter livestream app attracted 2.3 million users globally on its National Football League debut on Thursday night for viewing New York Jets' victory versus Buffalo Bills game for at least three seconds.

LEVELING UP

Everyone knows about Facebook Live and now, Twitter. With it being ranked 9th in the Most Popular Social Media category, Twitter is definitely taking its game to next level versus its rival Facebook on the top as of September 2016.

According to Statista, "As of the second quarter of 2016, the microblogging service averaged at 313 million monthly active users, compared to its rival that has 1.71 billion monthly active users."

Aside from attracting more users, Twitter and NFL has the goal to reach viewers who are more active in social media, prefer mobility, or who are not wired to cable.

First Sports Livestream

Although it raved positive feedbacks, Twitter's NFL livestream was not the first to offer the "free game broadcast". It was Yahoo's live broadcast that gained 2.36 million versus Twitter's average per-minute of 243,000 people. Also with its initial view, Yahoo hit 15.2 million compared to Twitter's 2.3 million.

On the flipside, TV broadcast still got the majority of 48.1 million people on it and with CBS and NFL Network at 15.4 million viewers.

Sports Takeover

Upcoming games to be covered by Twitter app's livestream would be Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League and National Basketball Association.

But, as of the moment, with 10 NFL Games (first five on CBS and NBC for the final five), stay tuned for the following "Thursday Night Football" game featuring Houston Texans versus the New England Patriots.

Downfalls And Improvement

Even though you no longer need to log in and could be easily viewed on Twitter's moments, popularity of the livestream was outrated with Yahoo's automatic livestreams on its homepage; which made visitors more aware and interested.

Also, Yahoo's first livestream was on a weekend rather than Twitter's which was staged on a workweek that gave it a hard time to compete with work tasks.

Nonetheless, with very good quality of HD viewing, Twitter could potentially attract more TV viewers just as long as they ensure that viewers will get same quality and mobility and made readily available in every country except Canada that has a separate television contract.

Also, watch the game on Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, and Xbox One on its Twitter app together with Periscope live streaming on before and after sideline coverage.
