With the demise of Pablo Escobar in "Narcos" Season 2, fans are anticipating who will take his place in the third instalment of the hit series.

Although "Narcos" Season 3 is still a year away, Netflix recently released its first teaser trailer. And fans couldn't hide their anticipation upon learning that the upcoming season will focus on the Cali Cartel.

The Cali Cartel made its debut in "Narcos" Season 2. The group was established by brothers Gilberto Orejuela (Damian Alcazar) and Miguel Rodriguez (Fransisco Denis) with Helmer "Pancho" Herrera (Alberto Ammann). Jose "Chepe" Santacruz-Londono, the the fourth man of the cartel's executive board, is expected to be introduced in "Narcos" Season 3.

According to reports, the Cali Cartel played a huge role in the end of Pablo Escobar as they worked with his competitor, Judy Moncada. They also enlisted the vigilante group Los Pepes. The Cali Cartel also provided intel for the Search Bloc in the Colombia Police.

In comparison, the Cali Cartel was different with Pablo Escobar, who positioned himself as an outlaw. Meanwhile, the Cali Cartel prefers to work as part of the system.

"Unlike Escobar, who had positioned himself as an outlaw, Cali was very much a part of the system," said "Narcos" executive producer Eric Newman, via The Hollywood Reporter.

The Cali Cartel had a bigger organization and influence in Colombia's presidency in 1994. They apparently have control over the military, financial and legal institutions. Aside from that, the group was also listed as one of the world's most powerful crime syndicates.

Unfortunately, the Cali Cartel will end up with the same fate as Pablo Escobar when DEA toppled them down within two years following the arrest of Miguel Rodriguez. According to reports, "Narcos" Season 3 will likely feature the end of the Cali Cartel and will move on to a Mexican cartel in season 4.
