Pokemon Go Ditto Easter Egg Hunt: Data Mining Use To Find Elusive Pokemon

The Pokemon Go Ditto Easter Egg Hunt just got interesting. Data miners scoured the game's data file to search for clues about elusive Pokemon.

Ditto Easter Egg Hunt Data Mine Result

Data miners looked for Ditto clues in the Pokemon Go 0.37.1 APK update. Unfortunately, they found no references for Ditto, according to Pokemon Go Hub. Technically speaking, the hackers searched for Ditto in the global-metadat.dat file. They did found references to Legendary Pokemon.

Possible Ditto Easter Egg on Server Side?

Earlier data mining efforts revealed that there were no references for Pikachu and other Pokemon starter. However, they are in Pokemon Go because their appearances are determined by Niantic's servers. Interestingly, most Pokemon Easter Eggs do originate from the server. This means that the data miners are looking for Ditto in the wrong place.

Ditto Not on Server Side Too?

Ditto originating from the server will mean that this Pokemon can only be obtained through spawns or evolution. The fact that no Pokemon Go player has caught any Ditto means that it may not be at the server side yet. Data miners also insist that even if Ditto is on the server side, there should be some sort of Ditto client handlers coded in the global metadata files.

Niantic CEO's Recent Hints on Ditto

It seems Niantic CEO John Hanke was humoring the interviewer about the possibility of catching Ditto in the wild right now. Eager Ditto fans will have to wait for a little bit more for their favorite Pokemon to appear.

How To Confirm Ditto Easter Egg Existence

Pokemon Go players who want to confirmed or disapproved Ditto's existence in the game could data mine the data files on their own. First download an Android File Explorer and use it to download the global-metadata file. Data miners will need a hex editor such as HxD to read it.
