Patrick Dempsey was given the nickname of McDreamy during the first season of "Grey's Anatomy" and being a part of the show for twelve years, it has created an impact to the audience. From then on, he was always called McDreamy, even long after he left the show and starred in other projects.

In the recently released romantic comedy, "Bridget Jones's Baby," Patrick Dempsey plays the role of a hopeless romantic guy Jack Qwant, who yearns for the love of Bridget and in competition with her ex-boyfriend, Mark Darcy (Colin Firth.) Even in the movie, he was still seen by the audience as McDreamy.

Actor Patrick Dempsey Believes It Was Just About Time For Him To Leave The Show

Thus, he was asked just recently about leaving "Grey's Anatomy" without an open door to come back since his character died in the show. According to the actor, "I think it was just time" when asked why he left the show. To him, it has become more than just maintaining money in the bank account, but the need to move on at some point.

It devastated many fans when Patrick's character was killed off, creating a big dynamic change to the show. However, he also said that he needed time to be with his family. Being part of the show had its cost. However, he remains very thankful for being part of the show.

Dempsey Wanted To Be Able To Have More Time For His Family, Hence Exiting "Grey's Anatomy"

His busy schedule and full commitment to the show has hindered him from spending time with his wife, and their three children. He admitted that it was just about time for him to be able to handle his own schedule, choosing to be with his family than the stability of being in the industry by staying in "Grey's Anatomy."

Despite leaving the show, he will forever be grateful to Shonda Rhimes for the growth he had on the show and for accepting his decision to leave and move on from it. To the fans, he has and will always be the iconic McDreamy.
