Nike Releases Self Lacing Shoes Hyper Adapt 1.0 On Nov. 28: Full Review

Nike's newest innovation of modernized shoe technology, the HyperAdapt 1.0, are indeed real, with its release date set on November 28. For sneaker fans, the week of Thanksgiving will definitely be a momentous day.

However, the shoes will be hard find on any local shoe store, based on Nike's executive PR Heidi Burgett's tweet declaring the date of release. According to Burgett, the modernized sneaks will be accessible at "selected Nike retail stores" with buyers having to make "arrangements to be able to purchase" the modernistic footwear.

About the HyperAdapt

The price remains a speculation, but Wired, which investigated the development of the shoes, expects them to be really expensive. Like every other battery-powered product, Nike's HyperAdapt is chargeable, which will feature a magnetic adaptor, taking three hours to charge it fully. Nike expects the battery will last around two weeks before it needs charging yet again.

Major features

Wearers can adjust the shoe's lace tightness by pushing a plus (+)button on the sides of the shoe to tighten it up and a minus (-) button to loosen. Neon lights serve as an indicator of the amount of battery that remains and it then notifies you when you need to recharge it.

Blue indicates a full charge, the yellow indicates a battery life is only going to last a few days, and red means that it needs a charge immediately, says Tiffany Beers, an innovator at Nike, in a video presenting the shoe.

It's not a gimmick. It's the real thing

While many think about the HyperAdapt as a gimmick, Nike insists that innovative sneaks are more than just that. "For performance, being able to adjust it on the fly," Beers says. "The beginning of a marathon or the end of a marathon, your feet will swell, and there's sweat. Your environment is always changing in sports. Initially you have control of it, being able to just adjust it by pressing a button quickly. But in the future that's going to happen on its own."
