Melbourne International Games 2016 Highlights Australia's Rising Gaming Industry

The technological breakthrough in PS4 Pro and Xbox Scorpio has enabled smash hits like "Uncharted: A Thief's End" and "Rise of the Tomb Raider" to be more than just games but also a great emotional experience -- almost akin to feelings felt when exploring a foreign country.

These fan favorites highlight the phenomenal growth of digital interactive gaming which has become the fastest growing segment of the global entertainment industry.

One of the leading cities in the world in producing AAA games is Melbourne, Australia.

In Melbourne, 47 percent of Australia's digital games are scripted, coded and published. From global companies to independent developers, each has found Melbourne's environment conducive to game creation.

These conditions have prompted the city to organize the "Melbourne International Games Week" in order to reinforce relationships among game developers and fans within the industry.

"Melbourne International Games Week" has become the largest digital games celebration in the Asia Pacific. The festival this year will run from Oct. 29 to Nov. 7. Gamers and game developers across the world are invited to join the festivities.

The "Games Week" features conferences, events and activities highlighting all things gaming in Melbourne.

Over 60,000 participants are expected to participate in the festival's key events like Game Connect Asia Pacific, the Women in Games Lunch, and the Australian Game Developers' Awards.

One highlight of the event is the "Game Changer: ACMI VR Festival" which is a one-day event that explores the possibilities and potential of Virtual Reality in game development and also in creating positive social change.

The "Games Week" is held near some of Melbourne's famous venues like the Australian Centre for the Moving Image and the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Martin Foley, Australia's Minister for Creative Industries, praised the event, saying: "Melbourne International Games Week celebrates our games strengths, brings the international games community to our city and provides opportunities for people of all ages to experience the latest in games."

To jumpstart things, the festival will invite participants to join in a great comical scavenger hunt called "Where in Melbourne is Carmen and Diego," which will be a live interactive experience for participants who will see how video games will be brought to life in the neighborhoods of Melbourne.
