'No Man's Sky' News: Hello Games Might Have A New Competition with System Era's Astroneer on Xbox One

No Man's Sky, the hit multiplayer game from Hello Games, might find a worthy opponent from a soon-to-be-released multiplayer co-op game called Astroneer which will be released on XBox One soon.

Astroneer is developed by System Era which gave the game an Early Access release date. So while Hello Games is still poised to debut No Man's Sky on XBox One, Astroneer will have its day among XBox fans.

Announced in 2015, Astroneer's storyline is set in the 25th century where a gold prospector battles it out with other prospectors to find gold in outer space. Players have to risk their lives against harsh environment using whatever resources they have at hand for a chance of getting rich. They can mine their resources from asteroids, moons, and planets, which they can then trade with other players. They can also craft these resources into new tools, vehicles, and other elements.

As for the terrain, it is malleable (reminiscent of Play Doh) which players can shape accordingly. These worlds or terrains are combine procedural generation "in a uniquely rendered voxel engine, featuring a textureless aesthetic."

One of Astroneer's advantage against No Man's Sky is its capability for online co-op gaming which can take up to four players.

"The game supports online co-op for up to four players, and exploring and sculpting the worlds with friends is an experience we're absolutely committed to," according to the Astroneer website, "We can't wait to see what kinds of incredible creations gamers will make, especially with the help of their friends."

Those who are interested in what Astroneer looks like can download the first playable build of the game using the XBox Game Preview or Windows 10 in December. "Astroneer" will also be released on Steam the same day the preview is released.
