DJI's Apple-Powered Mavic Pro Drone Launched, Made Portable and Handy

This year is the year of innovations. Companies are competing as to who can manufacture the most portable drone. GoPro said that their drone is so small that it can be carried anywhere in a backpack. But, a competitor enters the scene.

What makes DJI's new drone so remarkable?

DJI's Partnership With Apple

At a media event on Manhattan last Sept. 27, DJI introduced their latest drone Mavic Pro, which can be folded down to the size of a water bottle. Mavic Pro is half the price of the company's flagship drone Phantom, which costs $1400.

According to Apple Insider, DJI showcased the Mavic Pro by controlling it with an iPhone, as part of their partnership with the Cupertino-based company. There is an DJI Go App for iOS that allows the user to follow a person, object, animal, vehicle or anything he desires and capture it in various angles. There is also a selfie mode that can be controlled by hand gesture.

The Mavic Pro Can Track Objects on Auto-Pilot

Mavic Pro weighs 1.65 pounds, but the weight doesn't affect the advanced features of the drone. The latest DJI drone has a 4K 12-megapixel camera, supports live streaming, has a three-axis gimbal and gesture control.

The next-generation drone can do subject tracking, avoiding obstacles, autonomous landing and indoor stability sans GPS. The best part of it is users can select an object and it will be tracked on auto-pilot.

The camera is the same as in the Phantom 4, which can shoot 4K video at 30 frames per second (fps) and 1080p full high-definition (HD) at 96 fps. The camera also supports Adobe DNG (digital negative) RAW.

Mavic Pro's battery life lasts for 27 minutes, which clocks at 40 miles per hour in a single charge. It is more powerful than Phantom 4.

As noted by The Verge, the remote became smaller. The controller is reportedly now the size of a Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) control. Although small, it has a screen that displays the information regarding height, speed, distance and orientation. But, Mavic Pro can be controlled without a remote, thanks to Apple.

According to Frank Wang, CEO and founder of DJI, "DJI has spent a decade making it easier for anyone to fly, and by rethinking everything about how a drone looks, we have created an entirely new type of aerial platform for anyone to explore their creativity. Mavic Pro is a technological triumph filled with features that once again show how DJI leads the industry."

Truly, drone technology is changing every year. Not a single tech company wants to be left behind.
