Why ‘The Lion King’ Live-Action Film Is Not A Good Idea

To relive the highest grossing - movie of all time means taking back one’s animated journey in the kingdom of lions but to remake a classic into a live – action movie seems unnecessary.

The official announcement of the Walt Disney studios and Jon Favreau that “The Lion King” will be put into a new reimagining sparked various reactions especially from the avid fans of the 1994 animated musical film.

Even the press did not ignore the controversial reboot. The Washington Post made an appeal to director Favreau to consider a lot of things prior to making major changes on his latest project.

“Unlike your “Jungle Book,” please truly reimagine “The Lion King” from a narrative perspective, too, out of pure aesthetic respect.”

The writer, who criticized the live action version of the original, emphasized that the 90’s hit movie has been a household name passed and enjoyed by different generations until now and to transform it is a “bad idea.”

Both Disney and Favreau have proven their worth in the entertainment industry with their stellar credentials that boast long list of chartbuster movies which won the hearts of millions. But to modify the brand that the original movie has preserved is another story. Is the influence of the digital world too powerful to rake billions?

A report noted that the new "Lion King" will be getting inspiration on the achievements of "The Jungle Book" with the presence of real life characters and even the animals in a jungle environment. Danger is out of the way as the realistic setting is made possible with the cutting edge technology and a green-screen set in a studio in Los Angeles.

The original movie has produced nearly $1 billion in its worldwide sales and is expected to make another phenomenal hit following the epic remake of Favreau’s “The Jungle Book.”
