'Jurassic World 2' News & Update: Colin Trevorrow Teases Sequel Is Scarier, Bigger Than Predecessor

"Jurassic World" is set to come back for a sequel and director Colin Trevorrow hinted it would be bigger than the first film. He also revealed the use of animatronics to equip "Jurassic World 2" with scarier and more realistic dinosaurs, making the upcoming film more exciting and suspenseful.

Trevorrow, who will serve as co-writer/executive producer of "Jurassic World 2," shared in a recent interview his insights and dropped teasers for the upcoming sequel, which he described as scarier and more thrilling than the first movie. Trevorrow left the director's seat to J.A. Bayona to give way to his new directing project for "Star Wars Episode IX."

In a recent chat with the Jurassic Outpost, Trevorrow discussed how "Jurassic World 2" is going to be more suspenseful and scarier than the first films produced under the franchise. He added that the whole film is being built around the superb film creation skills of Bayona, the chosen director of "Jurassic World 2."

The fans were delighted and expecting a new level of thrill and horror that the "Jurassic World" sequel will deliver. Trevorrow, backed up with a tweet from The Jurassic World team, also revealed the use of more animatronics than in the previous films.

Trevorrow along with his team will take advantage of the technology to deliver more new creatures to scare the fans.

"There will be animatronics for sure," he confirmed. "We'll follow the same general rule as all of the films in the franchise, which is the animatronic dinosaurs are best used when standing still or moving at the hips or the neck. They can't run or perform complex physical actions, and anything beyond that you go to animation. The same rules applied in Jurassic Park. I think the lack of animatronics in Jurassic World had more to do with the physicality of the Indominus, the way the animal moved. It was very fast and fluid, it ran a lot, and needed to move its arms and legs and neck and tail all at once. It wasn't a lumbering creature."

The 1993 film "Jurassic Park" was among the first movies to utilize CGI and animatronics in production. The life-sized animatronic dinosaurs that were featured in the "Jurassic Park" movie were created by Stan Winston and his team, according to the American Cinematographer. His T-rex creation stood with a height of 6.1 meters and length of 12 meters, making it more realistic. This first product of animatronics made Steven Spielberg's realistic and terrifying work a legend in live-action film making.

"Jurassic World 2" is slated to open in theaters on June 22, 2018.
