The Google event on Oct. 4 showcased a lot of devices from the tech company. The new Google WiFi router is set to replace the previous OnHub. The device was unveiled together with the new Pixel smartphones, Google Home, Google Assistant, Chromecast Ultra and Daydream View VR headset.

Google has dubbed it as the new approach to home WiFi.

Google WiFi Router

The new Google WiFi has a wider range of wireless connection compared to the previous router. It is most suitable for old and bigger houses. Apparently, it is also able to defy thick stucco walls. Google described it in their blog as a device that offers stronger and faster signal.

This is regardless of the room the user is in and the device being used. It is basically an improved OnHub router. Google explains that the Google WiFi uses "mesh WiFi" technology. It doesn't work as the usual single router. If it does, the Google WiFi would only offer slow wireless internet connection.

However, the device will work within a mesh network. Each access points has a high-powered connection. They will all work together to ensure a strong network signal. It will reach anywhere in your house. It is not limited by distance. 

According to the Business Insider, the Google WiFi router can function in a home with up to 1,500 square feet. As such, the three-unit WiFi router can operate up to 4,500 square feet.

The Network Assist Technology

The Google WiFi is integrated with Network Assist technology. It adjusts and manages the router setting for the user. The Network Assist is automated to find the strongest and clearest channel and WiFi band for the user's device.

Google also states that it prevents dead spots or delays in the connection. This is caused by the ability of the Network Assist to transition devices between access points.

Controlled Over A Smartphone App

Google provides a companion app for the Google WiFi. It is both available on Android and iOS. It displays all the devices connected to the network and the amount of bandwidths being used. The app also lets the user pause internet access by certain devices.

Google revealed that it settings for cloud management. It also lets the user not worry about their privacy. The device allows a more secure and safe network connection. The Google WiFi costs $129 but a three-unit will have a higher price at $299. It is available for pre-order in the US in November.
