'Death Stranding': What's With Hideo Kojima's New Game?

With a roughly three-minute long trailer they revealed on E3 2016 to work with, seems like it should be enough to tell us what Death Stranding aims to be. But apart from the facts that it's Hideo Kojima's new opus and Norman Reedus is the star, everyone is trying to make sense of everything else. Here is what we know about Death Stranding so far.

Internet Meltdown

Death Stranding caused quite a bit of a stir in the internet and the whole gaming community, especially fans of Hideo Kojima. If you are one, then you probably know what happened when Hideo Kojima left Konami, and if you've been following the whole fiasco then you know Konami pretty much treated Kojima like he doesnt exist and went as far as removed Hideo Kojima's name from the box art of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and cancelled Silent Hills. (I cried for days)

But when they released the trailer for Death Stranding, no one has a freaking clue of what the setting will be. The trailer was dramatic enough but too many questions and enigmatic symbolisms, like stranded whales, a naked Norman Reedus holding a baby (Norman Fetus, lol), then floating men (probably also naked), did make everyone question everything. This left the internet doubting if whether Hideo Kojima even knows where he wants Death Stranding to lead. What is Death Stranding and why is Norman Reedus naked? What will be Norman's purpose in all of this?

Starring Norman Reedus And Hannibal Lecter

Norman Reedus was supposed to be the lead in Konami's Silent Hills, directed by Hideo Kojima himself along with Guillermo del Torro, the game recieved so much positive excitement and much-deserved hype especially when they released P.T. or playable teaser when they announced the game. So you can only imagine how much disappointment everyone felt when they cancelled productions. Now Hideo Kojima wanted Norman Reedus again to play as the main character in Death Stranding; with his performance in the trailer, there's no question why.

Rumors have been circling around that Mads Mikkelsen may be part of the game as Hideo Kojima tweeted a picture of an actor that the internet (strongly hopes) believes could be the actor from the TV series Hannibal.

Although this is purely just rumor, they came to this conclusion when a fan posted a photo on instagram having met the man wearing the same thing and that Mikkelsen was working on a video game by a Japanese Studio. It's also good to note that Hideo Kojima considers Mads Mikkelsen as one of his favorite actors.

Gameplay

Little information is still known about how the game will be played, and Hideo Kojima revealed some of it during the pre-Tokyo Game Show stream. According to Kojima, the game will be an open world environment with "degree of freedom" for the players. Which Releases says, is "arguably similar to what Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is."

Death Stranding will also include online elements but gives more importance to player interactions. Hideo Kojima interestingly explained the main theme of Death Strading through a short story by Kōbō Abe. Man invented the stick to keep 'bad things' away and the 'rope' to secure important ones. Kojima said most action games of today have been all about the "stick" way of doing things, while Death Stranding will explore the "rope."

Platform

Death Stranding will probably be a PlayStation 4 exclusive title (probably but most likely). No release date has been announced as of yet but Kojima says it may come out before the 2020 Olympics.
