Samsung Gets Viv, A Next Generation AI Assistant Built By The Same Makers Of Siri

Apple has Siri. Google has Google Assistant. Amazon has Alexa. Maybe sooner, rather than later, Samsung is also going to get its own artificial intelligence assistant now that it has acquired Viv - a next generation AI assistant from the very same makers of Apple's Siri.

Samsung decided to buy Viv Labs, a new startup founded by the creators of Siri, instead of creating their own. Last May, Viv Labs showed off its next generation AI assistant in public at Disrupt NY and wowed its audience after successfully handling a series of complex requests from users.

The brains behind Viv

Last 2010, Apple acquired Siri. By 2012, the three geniuses who created Apple's personal assistant - Chris Brigham, Adam Cheyer and Dag Kittlaus - left Siri to work on Viv. Their aim? Make a better version of the now available Siri.

With the trio behind the Viv, users can expect that the next generation personal assistant will be more powerful and more extensive compared to Siri's capabilities.

How Viv is better than its competition

VIv is pretty special when it comes to "talking" to people and "building itself" to accomplish new task. Some personal assistants like Siri are just starting to make interconnection with information using apps and services. Viv is built with an interconnected nature that helps it answer more complex queries and be more conversation with its users.

Second, Viv has an AI capable of accomplishing new tasks it needs to do by writing its own code. This is not a new breakthrough for the AI industry, but Viv was the first one to use this technique and perform it successfully in public.

So far, no exact amount of Samsung's acquisition of Viv Labs has been reported yet. The founders of Viv also emphasized that even if Samsung has already bought Viv Labs, they will remain an independent company and simply serve Samsung and its platforms with their services.
