iPhone 5 Sales: Analyst Predicts Apple Will Sell 250 Million Units of New iPhone

A recent analysis claims that each generation of Apple's iPhone sold are approximately equals all the previous generations of iPhones combined, and  the company will sell as many as 170 million units of the new iPhone in its first four quarters.

According to Asymco analyst Horace Dediu, Apple's next-generation iPhone 5 will have cumulative sales figure of more than 263 million units. Dediu also adds that the Cupertino tech giant will "easily" sell at least 250 million units of its next-generation iPhone if the company keeps the device in production, as long as it did the iPhone 3GS. However, the question is that can the next generation iPhone 5 create a 100 percent historic growth rate?

Dediu notes that if Apple makes a 60 percent growth rate, it will sell about 200 million iPhones over the next twelve months. And, if the new iPhone can make at least 85 percent of the total figure, Apple will sell about 170 million iPhone 5s through mid 2013.

According to the Asymco report, Apple's 3G iPhone sold nearly four times the original Apple phone while the next 3GS ousted the 3G and the original iPhone. It was sold by a margin of 1.6 times more than that of its predecessors. The iPhone 4, once released, beat all the three models easily and it is still in the market thereby, increasing the sales number. iPhone 4S, however, is only half way through beating  the last four generations of iPhones - iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G, and the original.

Dediu noted that if Apple maintains the current quarter sales, same as the last quarter, it will sell a total of 100 million iPhone 4Ss by the end of September, making it two thirds of the sum of the previous iPhones. He also adds that Apple is likely to continue production of the 4S for at least one more year. Therefore, iPhone 4S, in all probability, will come close to a figure of 162 million.

Meanwhile, iPhone 5 has been swirling around the Internet blogosphere for quite some time now. The most-anticipated phone of the year is expected to be launching on September 21.

Per the latest rumors, iPhone 5 is expected to sport a bigger screen, Quantum Dot LED curved glass with 16:9 Aspect Ratio display and 1,136x640 resolution, 367ppi pixel density, iOS 6.0, A6 or "a variation of the A5X's S5L8945X architecture" processor, 1GB RAM, a small 9-pin connector, bigger battery, and will support 4G or LTE network.
