‘Reply 1988’ News & Update: Producing Director Says Next 'Reply' Series Installment Coming In 2017

After "Reply 1988" producing director Shin Won Ho had finished work on the DVD for the 2015 series, he said he is preparing for the next "Reply" series installment to be aired in 2017. He made the announcement on Sunday at an event for tvN10 Festival.

According to Soompi, the festival is a celebration of the cable channel's productions over the past decade, many of which were hits. These include the network's three "Reply" series - "Reply 1997," "Reply 1994" and "Reply 1988."

"Reply 1988," the third installment of the cable channel's "Reply" series, was inspired by MBC's 1986 "Three Families Under One Roof." It was critically acclaimed and highly popular with its finale episode logging an 18.8 percent audience share, making it one of the highest-rated Hallyu dramas in the history of Korean cable TV.

Park Bo Gum Shines After "Reply 1988"

Among the stars of "Reply 1988" -- a drama set in 1988 about five friends from Ssangmun-dong, Dobong District, northern Seoul -- is Park Bo Gum who is currently starring in the hit series "Moonlight Drawn By Clouds."

At the tvN10 Awards, "Reply 1988" got the Content Grand Excellence Award (Daesang) for drama alongside "Three Meals a Day - Fishing Village Edition" for variety.

"Reply" Series Harvests Awards At tvN Festival

The "Reply" series also collected other awards in other categories such as Trending Actors, tvN Asia, Special Acting, Made in tvN, Scene Stealer and Best Kiss awards.

Seo In Guk of "Reply 1997" received the Made in tvN (Drama) award. He and co-star Jung Eun Ji shared the Best Kiss award. The tvN Asia award went to Park Bo Gum of "Reply 1988" and Sung Dong II of the "Reply" series was given the Special Acting award.

Two actors from "Reply 1988," Ryu Jun Yeol and Hyeri, shared the Trending Actors award, while Ra Mi Ran and Kim Sung Kyoon from the same series bagged the Scene Stealer award.

In late September, Ra Mi Ran described Park Bo Gum, who is one of the hottest Hallyu stars now, as too perfect because of his angelic personality. The actor's connection with her remains even if the series had ended with the former sending her text messages and watching her other dramas, Soompi reported.
