Honor S1 Release Date: Smartwatch To Launch Next Week

Alongside the unveiling of the new Honor 6X, the Honor S1 Smartwatch is also reported to be launched on Oct. 18 press event in China. Excitement is due with this being the first smartwatch with the Honor branding from Huawei.

The first smartwatch under the Honor branding

In a report from Pocketnow, the launch was teased with a promotional image showing the yet-to-be-confirmed features of the Honor S1 smartwatch. The image shows the watch as supposedly having a staple rounded design and what appears to be drops of water hinting that the phone will be waterproof, like the Huawei Watch. The smartwatch is the first of its kind as the previously released Honor Band Z1 is a mix of smartwatch and fitness tracker, but leaning more on the latter.

Android Wear or Tizen

Unlike the main attraction of the event Honor 6X, the specifications of which have all been confirmed prior to the launch, the Honor S1's tech sheet has not been released or even leaked. In a report from GSMArena, Huawei denied any Android Wear devices this year. This means the Honor S1 would probably be powered by Tizen or another simpler operating system built in-house by Huawei itself.

Honor S1 vs Huawei Watch

The premium looking and steeply priced Huawei Watch had set the bar too high for smartwatches to the company. The Honor branding, however, speaks of the premium features in affordable price philosophy set by Huawei. If the same is applied for the Honor S1 Smartwatch, it should be priced lower but retaining most, if not all, of the premium feature and power of the fancier android-wear-running Huawei Watch.

The Honor S1 Smartwatch's performance still remains to be seen. Nevertheless, given the success of the Honor line that caters the crowded midrange smartphones market, the Honor S1 should have no problem. With the impending launch next week, the Honor S1 will have to impress anyone at the event to make a mark of its own and not be clouded with the much anticipated Honor 6X.
