Blue Lean Mean Fighting Machine At Its 25th Anniversary: UK Is Hosting Hedgehog Art Exhibits

Sega and fine art editor Washington Green joined forces to mark Sonic the Hedgehog's 25th Anniversary.

The new plan is bringing together a range of renowned artists to create a collection of fine art pieces motivated by everyone's beloved blue hedgehog. The works will use a number of various mediums and creative styles, along with sculpture, painting, and mixed mediums, that will come from both standard artists and new talent.

An optional of the works will also be copied as signed limited editions and sold all over Washington Green's network of Castle Fine Art exhibits. Each replica will be hand-signed by Naoto Oshima, one of the creation members and designers of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, and come with a credentials of authenticity.

Jason Rice, director of brand licensing at SEGA Europe, said:

"Our goal when it came to Sonic's 25th Anniversary was to celebrate, but also mark the occasion with a series of initiatives which take a unique view on what is one of the world's most iconic video game characters. The Sonic licensing program me is already well known for its art programmers but we wanted to really push the boundaries with this project.  With Washington Green we have been able to create a one-of-a-kind collection for the franchise.  They have given us access to some of contemporary art's most celebrated artists not to mention a number of new up and coming talents.  The result is a collection of truly stunning and innovative works from some of the finest painters and sculptors around today."

The art display will launch across the U.K. this coming December 2. Sonic's most recent game, Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice, released last month to moderate reviews, but was commonly seen as an progress over Sanzaru's Games' previous effort, Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal.
