Ford Mustang Factory Temporarily Idled Because Of Decline In Sales

Ford Mustang, the popular and iconic sports car, has met a 32 percent sales drop in the U.S. last month. Ford was outsold by Chevrolet Camaro. This is the first time Chevrolet beat the leading brand in two years. Because of this, Ford decided to shut down its Mustang factory in Michigan for a week.

Kelli Felker, Ford spokesman, confirmed that the company decided to temporarily shut down its factory in Flat Rock, south Detroit. The reason for this is to allow the company to match it's production capacity with its demand.

The second-largest U.S. automaker houses 3,702 employees. They make Lincoln Continentals and Mustangs. According to Felker, the production will resume on Oct. 17 . The employees will also beep aid during the shutdown- as agreed upon in the automaker's labor agreement.

These circumstances may pose signs that the U.S. auto market is already meeting its decline. This can pose a major threat as in the past, the auto market has been the main driver in economy.

The monthly sales of automakers have been falling short. Though sales have significantly increased in September, this may not be enough to conclude a stable data.

Analysts predict that the U.S. car industry will have difficulty in matching the 17.5 million sales of cars and light trucks last year.

Ford's most iconic brand is Mustang. In fact, it was innovated into a ray design two years ago during Ford's 50th Anniversary.

Mustang's new look encouraged sales outdoing the Camaro in 2015. Mustang then regained it's title as the top-selling sports car in the US.

Ford has proudly celebrated its title as the leading company in the US car industry for decades. This was however briefly interrupted when Camaro was redesigned by General Motors in 2010.

The recent statistics may be new to the car maker's profile. As to how the Ford will rise up to the challenge in the coming days is something we surely want to watch out for.
