Apple App Store Has New Look in iOS 6 Via Chomp

Apple acquired San Francisco-based start-up Chomp six months ago and now, the company is set to integrate the mobile search engine into its operating system. Apple on Friday (Aug. 31) updated the App Store for iOS 6 beta with Chomp-inspired layout and search results upgrades.

The new App Store, that has been made available to developers running the upcoming iOS 6, sports a refurbished look based on app cards (or tiles) rather than the earlier list view seen in iOS 5. The recent update to the operating system's beta version has evidenced this change.

The iOS 6 App Store presents applications in a card format that can be swiped and users can see the app title. There is also the five-star rating system and a button to install the app on the user's iPhone or iPad. The redesigned App Store, currently, looks much like what the user would find on the desktop version of the App Store.

Basically, the new interface makes use of an algorithm that learns the functions of apps, then allows users to search (based on what an app does), rather than its given title.

Additionally, Apple, apart from the iOS 6 App Store updates, also enabled the Genius recommendation section to provide users with apps that they may be interested in. Moreover, the purchased section has also been introduced, and according to a 9to5Mac report, it "displays all the apps users have downloaded to their accounts, making it easy to retrieve favorite apps."

The iTunes Store has also been updated with the capability to once again search for podcasts.

Apple's iOS 6 is expected to debut this fall alongside the next-gen iPhone. Check out the video below.
