‘Scream’ Season 2 News & Updates: MTV Orders Season 3 But With Major Changes; Halloween Special Unmasks Lakewood's Third Killer

"Scream," the televisions series inspired by a movie of the same title, has been renewed by MTV for a shortened third season despite the decrease in viewership. "Scream" season 3 is expected to air in 2017, but there will only be six episodes making it a mini season. For those who are looking for a Halloween fix, "Scream" will air a special episode which will showcase mysteries that will unfold mainly in the third season.

"Scream" Series Renewal And Plot Speculations

The season 2 series finale of "Scream" in August showed that Kieran, Emma's boyfriend, was the one who has been going on a killing rampage in Lakewood. No details were revealed about the production start date or the casting although there's talk that "Scream" season 3 will have a different showrunner. Despite its poor showing, there's no talk that "Scream" will end with season 3.

Based on an interview with executive producer Michael Gans, the next installament of "Scream" is not necessarily in Lakewood although it would still be connected to the small town. It is said that in the new season, any member of the cast could still turn out to be the killer.

"Welcome to Lakewood, Mr. James."

"Scream" may have been turned into a series but it's basically a Halloween show. So, it doesn't come as a surprise that season 2 has a Halloween special. Based on the episode synopsis, the Lakewood survivors would be leaving town for Shallow Grove Island where bestselling authors Noah and Stavo needs to do some research on Anna Hobbs. Hobbs is a babe who killed her family on Halloween an interesting subject that they will feature in their next novel. While on the island, they go face to face with another killer. Meanwhile, in Lakewood, someone checks into a motel and is greeted by the staff as Mr. James.

"Scream" Halloween special is set to air on Oct. 18, Tuesday at 9/8c.
