Sony Might Consider Its Own Mobile Gaming Ambitions, Thanks To Pokemon GO

The rise of Niantic's Pokemon GO inspired Sony to release its own line of mobile games in 2018. Word is that Sony is planning to release five new mobile games to see how they will fare in the mobile gaming market. The company's focus will be centered on Asian markets, especially Japan. Right now, official game titles have not been released yet, but Sony emphasized that they will prioritize their own game titles from before to make it into the market.

Not The First Time For Sony To Venture In Games

The company's interest to delve into mobile games again started when Sony's CEO, Kazuo Hirai, publicly mentioned the success of Pokemon GO as a great interest to the company. Hirai's obvious interest in Pokemon GO and how it changed how people moved literally has lead the CEO to a decision to pursue mobile gaming more aggressively than what they have done in the past.

This is not the first time that Sony will engage in creating mobile games. However, the company is planning to be more serious this time with their venture into the mobile gaming market. There is no other clue as to what kind of mobile games Sony is planning to create. What is sure is that their mobile games are likely to be linked to their game consoles. On the other hand, revamping old games from Sony to fit today's market would be a total challenge for them. The competition will also be interesting if Sony's aim is to beat Niantic with its Pokemon GO.

A Definite 'Game' Challenge

Pokemon GO is without a doubt one of the most successful mobile games of today thanks to its active userbase and Niantic's hyped game is likely to stay for a very long time. On the other hand, Sony might find it difficult to beat the competition given that Pokemon GO was established from more than two decades of Pokemon cartoons and games. Aside from Niantic, Sony will also compete with Nintendo which is another challenge on its own.
