Android 4.2 Key Lime Pie Rumored – New Play Store, Project Roadrunner And More

While Android users are yet to come to terms with the latest offering from Google, v4.1 Jelly Bean, the upcoming version 4.2 Key Lime Pie is already amidst rumors. Latest reports indicate that the futuristic OS from Google is just around the corner.

Although nothing has been made official as of now, word's on the street that the newest OS from Google is likely to be revealed alongside the company's expected Nexus announcement. However, that hasn't stopped the OS from garnering speculations related to its key features that could be arriving with the upcoming platform, and the latest rumor has arrived from a recent server log analysis.

According to the rumors, Android 4.2 is set to introduce some new and unique, never-seen-before features. The new features include the ability to stream even more content via Google Play, as well as run games unavailable on other phones and tablets.

A new Customization Center is also on the cards to help personalize the look and feel of the Google-backed operating system, alongside Google's plan to check out updates and answer how-to questions on using and configuring the OS.

The idea here, per a Droid Life report, is to give "Android users a centralized place to go to change ringtones, wallpapers, and other settings that in the past, haven't always been that easy to find."  The new OS may also include several new "templates" that a user can choose from to alter the appearance of the user interface, including icons, or the color scheme with ease.

The rumored new Google Play is also expected to include notifications for promotional campaigns, which will be made optional. Other features include personalized searches, more billing options, and easier in-app purchases.

Another new feature called Project Roadrunner is also said to be included in the new OS. While the previous Project Butter's attempt was to make Android a whole lot smoother (with a more consistent framerate and better responsiveness), Android 4.2's rumored Project Roadrunner could be an effort to make similar low-level adjustments to tweak battery life.

However, currently, details on any of the above-mentioned features, especially Project Roadrunner are scarce. More information could be revealed with the expected launch of the Nexus device from the company.
