The Medical Benefits Of Scorpion Venom to Humans

Scorpion venom when delivered by the Scorpion in defense from predators is a toxin to the receiver and fatal to the victim. Scientists had now employed the application of this venom for medical purposes on humans. This medical step is working, gaining huge grounds and gearing for more development.

The Scorpion Venom contains biological chemicals that is a source of new drugs. This chemicals are known as peptides that trigger cell death when it form pores on biological membranes. Cell death is helpful when a cancer cell could be effectively targeted by these peptides. It will cause the targeted cell to auto destruct and kill the cancer cell in the process.

These peptides has anti-microbial and anti-cancer properties which make it very potent like the one taken from the yellow Brazilian scorpion. However, complications occurred as this Scorpion Venom kills both the cancer and healthy cells in the body.

To avoid from intoxicating the healthy cells, the employment of nanotechnology in the delivery stage could be applied at the level of transporting the Scorpion Venom to the cancer cell.

This form of medication is effective on breast cancers, but it is not yet ready to specifically target the disease. Scientists may modify this drug by attaching certain proteins that could recognize the disease it targets. Another possibility is by coating the transporting nano particle with a biodegradable film, until it reaches its delivery destination in time, to release the venom to the targeted cancer cells. The Scorpion Venom led these peptides in the study and application.

The discovery of some drugs were not pushed through due to the toxic level during the delivery issues, thus halting it to being commercialized. It is through the further development of molecular technology that these drugs, are once again recalled and to continue its development so humankind can access the potential of these wonder drugs right off the counter.
