'Criminal Minds' Season 12 Updates: Dr. Reid To Have A Huge Storyline As The Season Progresses

Airdate for the upcoming "Criminal Minds" season 12 has been shortly delayed due to the presidential debates, but still excites the fans nonetheless. With the serial killer to soon be identified in the upcoming episode, a huge storyline is also up and coming with one of the main cast, Dr. Spencer Reid.

Emily Prentiss Leads The BAU Team In Replacement Of Aaron Hotchner In Upcoming Episode Of "Criminal Minds"

Based on the promo released for the upcoming episode of "Criminal Minds," the BAU team will be hunting down a mysterious killer that has killed up to seven innocent lives already. They will be chasing the suspect down in the woods in Virginia, with Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster) leading the time. As it can be recalled, her character recently got back to the BAU during the last episode, allegedly temporarily replacing Hotchner. However, the fans know pretty well that it is going to be permanent since Hotchner is no longer coming back.

Paget Brewster was already set to return to "Criminal Minds" as a series regular long before Thomas Gibson was fired form the show. Thus, the writers needed to alter her role in her comeback, making her the new leader of the team since Hotchner and Morgan are now gone. Her character as Prentiss has been one of the most loved characters in the series and her return has gotten a lot of positive feedbacks from the fans of the series. However, they still hope that Gibson would have been given a proper exit from the series, being a part of it for eleven years already.

Spencer Reid To Have A Huge Storyline In "Criminal Minds" Season 12 As Series Progresses

Other than Prentiss coming back to the BAU, a huge storyline also awaits Dr. Spencer Red (Matthew Gray Gubler) and his mother Diana (Jane Lynch). The latter is currently suffering with dementia and while the team gear up for locating a serial killer, Reid gets a call from the Los Angeles Police Department. His mother was seen wandering around in the casino and Rossi (Joe Mantegna) insists that Rid take some time off to visit her mother in Los Angeles. There have been reports that this episode is to make way for a huge storyline concerning the mother and son, and Jane Lynch's appearance in "Criminal Minds" upcoming episode 11.

"Criminal Minds" airs every Wednesday on CBS.
