The recent launch of Xiaomi's Mi Mix and its edgeless design should not take many people by surprise. Xiaomi has been doing well in copying Apple and Samsung devices. Unfortunately for the two tech companies, Xiaomi always seem to get away with it. Apple may have been too slow to release a bezel-less iPhone 8 in the market first. By doing so, Apple is beaten by Xiaomi's obvious ingenuity.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix

According to Engadget, the phone is almost edgeless. Its display occupies 91.3 percent of the phones available surface. In order to allow for that much space, the earpiece and infrared proximity sensor were removed from the top of Xiaomi Mi Mix. To make up for it, a cantilevered piezoelectric actuator behind the glass will produce audible sound for phone calls.

Another innovation for this new smartphone is its ultrasound for proximity sensing. Apparently, Elliptic Labs and Xiaomi had started to develop the said technology back in 2014.

The specs for the Mi Mix is also not a push-over. The 6.4-inch display phone is powered by a Snapdragon 821 chipset, up to 6GB of RAM, a maximum of 256GB storage, a 16-megapixel main camera and a massive 4,400mAh battery that has a Quick Charge 3.0 support, according to BGR.

It also has a fingerprint reader, and HD audio playback and it supports LTE Cat 11. The download speed could get up to 600Mbps using a tri-carrier aggregation.

At The Cost Of Apple And Samsung

BGR further reports that the Mi Mix will be released on Nov. 4 in China and not in the US. By then, Apple and Samsung have yet to release their own new phones that will feature maybe an even larger display.

Apple will definitely step up more now that Xiaomi has beaten them in their bezel-less design concept. Until iPhone 8 is launched, the Mi Mix deserves the spotlight for now.
