‘Will & Grace’ Reboot In The Works; NBC Used Reunion Episodes To Gauge Viewership?

After almost a decade, seeing the cast of "Will & Grace" together even for just 10 minutes fueled hopes that the show will have a new season. Given the overwhelming response, reports reveal that NBC is negotiating with the cast members for a limited-run of the sitcom's original episodes.

However, fans are hoping that NBC or any of the streaming platforms will pick up the series for a new season. Cast members expressed their willingness to do "Will & Grace 2.0" and the network may just be gauging viewership before they order a reboot for the series.

"Will & Grace" Reunion Mini-Episode

During the highly anticipated presidential debate coverage, fans were delighted to see a reunion episode of "Will & Grace" featuring the main characters played by Sean Hayes, Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, and Megan Mullally. The response from fans was overwhelming. Although networks are considering this possibility, there has been no official announcement to renew the series for another season.

Meanwhile, Messing who plays Grace Adler expressed how overwhelmed she felt with the public's response to the reunion clip. She also expressed that if the show will have a new season, she wants "Will & Grace 2.0" to be naughtier than the original. Hence, she hopes that the reboot will be picked up by Amazon, Netflix or a similar platform where the cast won't have to hold back. Mullally who plays Karen Walker also expressed her willingness to do the reboot. McCormack was quick to add that he expected people to crave for more once the mini episode is out and that he would be interested if he got a call offering a role in a "Will & Grace" reboot.

NBC Exploring Possible Reboot

NBC did not release a statement but according to an insider, the network is negotiating with "Will & Grace" creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick and the cast members to run old episodes in the network. The details for this limited run were not revealed, although many speculate that this is NBC's way to gauge audience response before they decide to do new episodes for "Will & Grace."
