Multi-Window Update is Almost Here for AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 2

Do you own an AT&T variant of Samsung Galaxy Note 2? Here is  good news for you. AT&T has reportedly confirmed that it will make available the multi-window functionality update at some point during Thursday.

According to an Engadget report, the Texas-based U.S. carrier confirmed that it will start rolling out the multi-window functionality, a split-screen feature that allows users to view two apps at once, over the air (OTA) Thursday (Dec. 27). With the update, the users of AT&T Galaxy Note 2 will no longer need to relay on Samsung's proprietary Kies desktop software to update their devices. However, there was no official word whether the ROM would be released in phases to minimize the impact on AT&T's servers. Here is the AT&T official statement on the matter:

"AT&T plans to begin rolling out a software update for Samsung Galaxy Note II customers that includes the Multi-Window feature, which allows the user to divide the screen into two active "windows" creating a split screen that enables fluid multitasking between applications. The update will be available for download over the air beginning Dec. 27."

Meanwhile, Android Authority reported the update would carry noting extra but simply an update enabling the multi-window feature on the AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 2. In short, users are advised not to expect anything large like Android 4.2.

AT&T will be the last of the four major U.S. carriers to bring the multi-window feature for the Galaxy Note 2. Sprint, Verizon and T-Mobile have already updated the feature in their devices.

With the multi-window feature, you can run two apps from a selected list simultaneously on the screen. The feature is quite different from QSlide  that is used in the LG Optimus G. Although both the apps do have the same goal, as the Phone Arena report rightly said, in QSlide, one of the two apps becomes more translucent while the other one becomes  more solid looking by using a virtual slider.
