Dancing iPhone 5: With Cycloramic App, Your iPhone can Rotate on its Own to Take 360-Degree Video

No joke, your iPhone 5 can spin and record videos in a complete 360-degree circle on its hands-free self. Using an app called Cycloramic, your iPhone 5 can be turned into a spinning camera.

To watch the app in action, place your iPhone 5 upright on a flat smooth surface like glass, polished granite or laminated wood (like desks). As you tap the "Go," the app will begin a countdown from three before it starts spinning on its own, balancing on its end, recording 360-degree panoramic videos even without a tripod or stand. The app generates a vibration module at exactly the right frequencies to make the smartphone turn on the smooth surface. The iPhone sensors then figure out how far it's rotated.

The 99-cent app from Egos Ventures bagged the Pogie Award for the Brightest Ideas of 2012, which termed the app as a "freakiest darned thing you ever saw."

"Gathered around a dinner table, in a bar, in a club, at home, at a conference table, or at a historical monument? Cycloramic allows you to capture the moment (hands free) in a unique and fun way whilst making you and your phone the talk of the event!," the description says on Cycloramic's Facebook page.

In addition, you can configure the app's settings to utilize the front-facing camera for video recording. You can also make the device spin two or three times instead of once. Cycloramic developers said the app is specifically designed for the iPhone 5 which should be used on a smooth, hard and level surface. Although the app opens with other iPhones, only the iPhone 5 has the right balance.
