Pebble Smartwatch for iPhone and Android will Start Shipping Jan. 23, Features Sharp Display, 7-Day Battery Life

Claimed to be the first watch built for the 21st century, the Pebble smartwatch is finally ready to be shipped to its Kickstarter backers on Jan. 23.

Making an appearance at the 2013 International Consumer Electronic Show (CES), Pebble Technology CEO Eric Migicovsky said the watch is in production and would take at least 6-8 weeks to meet all the initial orders with an expected production rate of 15,000 Pebbles a week. The earliest backers will be the first ones to receive the much-hyped product. Others who ordered the watch on the company website and people intent on owning one of these next-gen devices will have to wait longer as Pebble accelerates its production process in the coming weeks. The watch can be pre-ordered now for $150.

The Android and Apple iOS-connected smartwatch had broken the Kickstarter funding records when it raised more than $10.2 million in less than a month last year and all the 85,000 watches were sold then.

The Bluetooth 4.0 enabled e-paper watch can be connected to Android-powered smartphones and is compatible with iPhones. As The Next Web report says, the watch features a sharp display (144 x 168 pixels) and comes in white, black, orange, gray, and red frames. The device can live on for almost a week on a single charge and can be charged via USB. According to the Palo Alto, Calif., company, the watch features a three-axis accelerometer with gesture support and offers sleek visuals powered by an ARM chip. Pebble has a scratch-resistant lens and a vibrator. In addition, the watch will feature an ambient light sensor and a magnetic charging cable that the company claims will keep the watch waterproof.

Users can modify the watchface through the Pebble mobile app, which can be connected with the watch. It even features incoming call notifications and email. In short, there are endless possibilities with this wonder watch where in you can have calendar alerts, whether alerts, Facebook messenger, tweets, and expect many more as the company is now urging developers to create more apps to be integrated into the watch.
