‘Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them’ Casts Johnny Depp In Sequel; ‘Harry Potter’ Fans Are Furious

The “Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them” movie is about to make its debut this month and details on the sequel are now being reported as Johnny Depp has just been announced to co-star in the sequel and it seems fans are not happy.

While the whole world is anticipating the release of the newest “Harry Potter” spin-off movie, fans were treated to teasers on the sequel. Just recently, Deadline has reported on an exclusive that Johnny Depp will be joining the cast and co-star in the next installment of the upcoming movie, “Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them”. It also stated that David Yates will direct the sequel and Eddie Redmayne will be reprising his lead role as Newt Scamander.

Though it has been confirmed that Depp will indeed be in the sequel, there are no details released regarding his role. As of this moment, Depp’s role in the next movie has not yet been disclosed. But Deadline insists that there are hints of the actor’s role in the first “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” film as it states, “If you look carefully, you might spot him in a tiny turn in the first installment of the J.K. Rowling-created Harry Potter spinoff.”

The news about Depp joining the spin-off movie’s cast has been met with mixed reactions, mostly negative especially from fans of the “Harry Potter” series. It seems that the surprise has dampened the fans’ excitement while awaiting the release of the first movie. Fans claim that Depp will not suit the wizarding world J.K. Rowling created.

Depp has been renowned for his uncanny roles and stellar acting but these were not the reason fans were furious. Over the summer, the actor was reportedly accused of domestic abuse by his former wife Amber Heard. Heard alleged that Depp has physically assaulted her several times and had even released a photo of her bruised face to support the allegation.

Because of this issue, “Harry Potter” fans, otherwise known as Potterheads, believe that Depp will contradict the story of the series. Harry Potter is the main character in the J.K. Rowling’s fictional wizarding world and he was abused by his relatives at a young age. With this, people are livid that Depp, who allegedly attacked his ex-wife, gets to act in a movie franchise that condemns abuse in all forms.

Regardless of the reasons, it seems the production team of “Fantastic Beasts” series is keen on keeping Depp on board. Depp has not reacted nor released any statement regarding the reception of him being cast in the sequel. Meanwhile, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is set to debut in Dublin on Nov. 15 followed by a worldwide release on Nov. 18.
