Overwatch News: Blizzard Admits Sombra's ARG Pace Was Wrong But It Turned Into Their Favor

In the recently concluded BlizzCon 2016, Blizzard has unveiled the newest hero in Overwatch, the Mexican hacker chick, Sombra which at that time, was met with much hysteria from the crowd considering the long ARGs surrounding the elusive hero. Now, developers have taken a retrospect about the numerous Sombra ARGs and how it affected the community as a whole; admitting that they've underestimated how keen the fans are in data mining which resulted in a sudden advancement of the ARGs' pace.

Overwatch Sombra ARG

There have been numerous Sombra ARGs which started way back at the Ana's unveiling (near the tail-end of the video) and since then, has developed into a complex ARGs that drove the community into a frantic hype. But after seemingly countless hints and whatnot, most of the fans grew tired of waiting and have since then ignored any updated regarding the hero. Thinking in retrospect, the developers have now realized that they have indeed, miscalculated the pacing of the hero's ARG and that they will make sure to adjust in the future contents to come.

In an interview by Eurogamer, Tim Ford, Overwatch' lead gameplay programmer and Sky Chandler, one of the producers of the game, were asked about whether or not they think the ARG teased were a little bit early. The two has this to say:

"Maybe. Well, I think the initial one, putting it on the tail end of Ana's [reveal] was cool. We learned a lot about pacing and how to better reveal pieces, maybe in the future. I think, overall, it was well received."

Ford even explicitly said that he didn't expect how meticulous the community is in finding clues in just about everything. He specifically pointed out his most favorite part of the ARG series - it's the things that they [Sombra developers] didn't actually do. He implied that the SkySong and the ring effect in the sky of Dorado has nothing to do to the Sombra development and it's just a result of the creative mind of the fans.

Overwatch Sombra Unveiling

Regardless of how long the ARGs have taken, it's pretty clear that the fans had enjoyed the official unveiling of the Mexican hacker which can be seen in their reaction in the video down below. The developers were thankful that the fans met Sombra with much acclaim and enthusiasm at BlizzCon 2016 and are hoping to further improve their approach of unveiling more heroes in the future.
