'Piper' Captured The Attention Of The Audience In Just Five Minutes

The Age stated that watching Piper would put a smile on every viewer's face. Actually, the film only runs for five minutes. Piper, a hungry sandpiper, is being taught to hunt for food by its mother. Upon his journey, Piper would meet large waves that would cause the lead character to get traumatized. But when Piper met a hermit crab, all became clear to the hungry hatchling. The crab would help Piper discover the world in new perspective.

Alan Barillaro, the creator of Piper, admitted that the story was just a test and was developed for three years. The director was inspired by sandpipers he encounters during his morning run.

Barillaro, in an interview, told:

"I'll never forget being in [Andrew Stanton's] office and him handing me the script for Wall-E,and reading act one and seeing there's no dialogue. Not that I'd compare this to Wall-E at all, but it gave me confidence to tackle something like Piper."

It was speculated that Piper is being brewed to be part of the short animation category in Oscars.
