Xbox One S Review: Is It Really Better Than The Old Xbox One?

The Xbox One S is much thinner and packed with the latest hardware not to mention that it's much cheaper than the old Xbox One. But are these enough reasons to convince gamers to buy it?

What's New With Xbox One S?

It is basically an updated version of the Xbox One but it still has features that would excite many gamers. Microsoft also did remove some features that may be missed by Xbox One users. First, people can watch their favorite Netflix show and movies in 4K resolution. It can also play updated HDR games such as Rise of the Tomb Raider and Fallout 4, according to Techradar.

Kinect Port Not Included

Microsoft has decided to remove the Kinect port from Xbox One S. This is probably all right to people who never use one anyway. But for those who missed it, they can still connect the Kinect to the Xbox S via a USB adapter. Microsoft is also willing to give free Kinect to S buyers provided that they can prove that they own an old Xbox One.

The Xbox One S Gaming Advantage

Players will notice that their games look good in the Xbox One S compared to its predecessor since the new one has HDR capability. Microsoft claimed that the specs of the new S are basically the same with the original Xbox One. However, Gears of War representative Rod Ferguson said that the Xbox S has the technical capability of reducing the "resolution penalties" when playing a high resolution video game.

Available Xbox One S Bundles & Retail Price

The Xbox One S comes in several bundles and special editions. The S has three models when it comes to internal storage size namely, 500GB, 1TB and 2TB, according to the Microsoft Online Store. The default color is white but customers have several colors and themes to choose from. The retail price for Xbox One S ranges from $300 to $450 depending on the bundled edition.
