If you wonder how your girlfriend or wife remembers what you said five years back and use it against you in an argument, here comes the confirmation. Women have a much better memory than men. In the man vs woman battle, now it is "advantage: women."

Women get even sharper with memory after they reach the middle age. Men of their age fall far behind in all measures of memory. For the most part of their life, women remember things much better and longer than their male counterparts. But, their memory starts declining after their menopause.

In the post-menopause life, women suffer from "brain fog" and encounter increased forgetfulness. In addition, they get more vulnerable to dementia and memory impairment than men. In spite of these negative influences, middle-aged women outshine men of their age in terms of memory.

The study that comes up with this revelation, which men have secretly suspected for ages now, was conducted with 212 people, both men and women aged between 45 and 55. Through cognitive testing, the study assessed their semantic processing, verbal intelligence, executive function and episodic memory.

Researchers used a Selective Reminding Test and a Face-Name Associative Memory Exam to determine their episodic verbal memory and associative memory. Memory loss is directly related to aging. Around 75% older adults go through memory-related issues, epidemiological estimates indicate.

Menopause is a critical factor for women in terms of memory. According to the study, perimenopausal and premenopausal women have a better memory than postmenopausal women. According to Dr. JoAnn Pinkerton, people should take issues like "brain fog" seriously.

"This study and others have shown that these complaints are associated with memory deficits," Psych Central quoted the executive director of The North American Menopause Society as saying.

One may wonder if there is a direct connection between memory and estrogen. Since, according to Fox, memories get affected as estrogen levels drop in women.
