Kickstarter Releases iOS App

Kickstarter announced that it will now be available for use via iOS devices, although the crowd-source funding site hasn't indicated yet whether it also will be available in app form for Android.

The new app will allow users to gain funding support on a project they might be looking to get "kickstarted" and also check updates on those projects.

"The app is a whole new way to experience Kickstarter," said CEO Yancey Stickler. "We took things we've learned from the past three years of building the site, and applied them to a total redesign for the iPhone."

By employing the app, users can also upload pictures and videos anywhere on the road directly from their iOS mobile devices to their Kickstarter page, which of course can be managed on the app as well. The app even allows a user's iOS device to provide page/project notifications (while appropriately connected via social network).

"With the Kickstarter app, you'll have thousands of projects in your hands and a front row seat to the creative process," says Kickstarter. "Wherever you are."

The free app, released on Thursday, will soon be released on iTunes and can be downloaded now here.

Optimized for iPhone 5, the app — which requires iOS 5 or later — is also compatible with the following devices:

* iPhone 3GS

* iPhone 4

* iPhone 4S

* iPod touch (3rd generation)

* iPod touch (4th generation)

* iPod touch (5th generation)

 * iPad

According to Kickstarter's blog posting as regards the release of "Kickstarter Everywhere," concurrent revisions made to the site itself include redesigned project and browser pages.

 "And we focused on making three things really useful and fun: finding new projects, keeping up to date with projects you've backed, and offering great tools for creators," writes Kickstarter.

The Kickstarter iOS app was designed by Kickstarter team members Brandon Williams and Andrew Cornett.

Kickstarter — named a "Best Invention" by Time Magazine in 2010 — reports that in 2012 alone,  2,241,475 people pledged a total of $319,786,629 to successfully fund 18,109 projects.
