Square Releases 'Business In A Box' Package

Square revealed a new product Wednesday, Feb. 20 that could be big for entrepreneurs: It's the "Business in a Box" package, which contains everything a small business needs to set up a physical point of sale.

Square was founded by Twitter's Jack Dorsey in 2010. Its first product was the Square Reader, which attaches to Apple mobile devices and allows vendors to swipe credit cards with their phones or tablets, then process the sale through the Square Register App. Square also allows users to pay with their mobile phones using the Square Wallet app.

The package is meant to be paired with an iPad (not included), which functions as a cash register in the system, using the Register app, reports TechCrunch. The "Business in a Box" comes in two different forms, "paperless" and "printing." The paperless version comes with Square Readers, a specially designed iPad stand and a cash drawer and costs $299. The printing version comes with an additional receipt printer and costs $599, which allows business owners to print not only receipts, but also daily reports and summaries.

Only the Square Readers in the package are made by Square. The iPad stand is made by by Heckler Design, the cash box by APG and the receipt printer by Star Micronics.

Before the package, business owners using Square Register only had the card reader and app to work with, still having to purchase a cash register, as well as figuring out a secure way to house their tablet. Putting everything you need into a single package may be a great incentive for entrepreneurs to adopt the Square system.
