OnePlus 3T: As Good As Google's New Pixel But Much Cheaper?

OnePlus 3T is the best value smartphone to arrive this year.

Inexpensive OnePlus 3T

Allowing you to save a few hundred dollars over a Galaxy S or iPhone, inexpensive smartphones have usually been about compromise. While they come cheaper than high-end phones, usually you have to give up something, whether that's software experience, build quality, performance, display, camera quality or a combination of those. There have been many Android smartphones that challenge that convention this year, but only one as good as the OnePlus 3 released in June.

According to The Verge, the OnePlus 3 retailed significantly less than an Apple iPhone or a high-end $700 Samsung. For just under $400, the mobile device had premium build quality and design, the fastest processor available to Android smartphones and good software experience, despite that price. With the OnePlus 3, compromises were few.

But now, OnePlus has decided to replace its OnePlus 3 flagship with an even better version called the OnePlus 3T. The new iteration shares many of features and specs of the 3, including the same size and resolution display, same materials and design, same rear camera and same 6 GB of RAM. But the OnePlus 3T has the advantages of having a bigger battery, an even faster processor, an option for more internal storage, a better front camera and a new, darker gray color option.

The newly launched OnePlus 3T still doesn't have water resistance and still doesn't work on Sprint and Verizon or Sprint, but it is a slightly better smartphone than ever in other important metrics.  The OnePlus 3T is even less of a compromise than its predecessor, even at its higher starting price of $439 for a 64 GB model.

As Good As Google's New Pixel

According to tech analysts, the OnePlus 3T comes with similarly specs as Google's new Pixel. The 3T is fast enough for any exigent user. Thanks to improved electronic image stabilization, 4K video recording is slightly better thanks than in the OnePlus 3. It does not offers a video capture as steady as the Pixel, but it's good enough for most users. According to Business Insider, OnePlus upgrader the sapphire glass protecting the camera in order to ensure better resistance to crack and scratches.

The 3T's larger 3,400mAh battery cell provides improved battery life, yet the weight and thickness of the phone remain unchanged. The phone also comes with new software optimizations. It runs a newer version of Oxygen OS and it has improved power management. By the end of the year, the phone will be updated with Android 7 Nougat, according to OnePlus.

The OnePlus 3T uses proprietary Dash Charging fast charging system that can provide "a day's power in half an hour" of charging. Overall, the phone offers an even better experience than its predecessor OnePlus 3 and the improvements seem to justify its higher cost. For just $40 more, users can get a phone with better battery life. For just $80 more, they can get better battery life and twice as much storage. When balancing features, performance and experience versus price, the OnePlus 3T remains the best overall smartphone value on the market today.
