Why Blizzard Scrapped Overwatch Graphic Novel?

Overwatch has been arguably one of the most popular games right now. As result, several fans are hoping for other venues outside the game engine such as the rumored Overwatch Graphic Novel. It was reported that fans greatly anticipated the arrival of the said graphic novel. However, Blizzard scrapped the idea.

According to the report from Game Rant, the reason why Overwatch attracted most gamers is because of its unique approach which includes the superiority of the gameplay surrounding the multiplayer product. Blizzard is also doing a great job on providing fans some overarching narratives. It even kickstarted a community movement in discovering every detail adjoining the playable Overwatch characters. As a result, gamers are curious to learn how the game, along with its story and characters evolve in the future.

Based on the report, Blizzard initially plans on recreating the games narrative into a graphic novel which is entitled Overwatch: First Strike. At the very least, this was the case before Michael Chu, the literature's lead confirms the cancellation of the project due to creative changes. Based on Chu's comments, Blizzard has eventually decided to take the story in a different track. However, Chu added that the core of the story still remained as is while changing and expanding the events that happened during the first day of Overwatch.

Additionally, the game's plot has an always changing dynamics. Thanks to the platform-esque nature of Overwatch, it seems like the game developer is not yet prepared for a lockdown on a pre-existing narrative since there are more characters coming that will have relevant ties with the present roster. Another possible reason is that Blizzard is not against making an Overwatch television series.

Overwatch is currently available on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4
