Michelle Obama Announces Healthy Recipe Search

First Lady Michelle Obama has announced a healthy recipe search project to be led by five media companies as well as the social media website Pinterest. The effort aims to streamline the process of finding healthy recipes.

The companies involved are Conde Nast, Hearst Magazines, Meredith Corp, the Food Network and Time Inc. So far they have pinpointed over 3,000 recipes that fall under federal nutrition guidelines for the amount of fruit, vegetables, protein and grains that ought to be consumed at every meal. The recipes have been posted on the companies' most popular cooking websites.

Pinterest has posted nearly 1,000 recipes on a new page.  Users of the site can organize recipes they like by "pinning" them to boards of their own. Some of the recipes include Chili-Rubbed Steak Tacos, Shrimp and White Bean Salad, No-Time-for-Breakfast Burritos and Honey Lime Fruit Salad.

"As a mom, I know how challenging it can be to think of new meal ideas that your kids will like and that will be good for them," Obama says. "This partnership takes the guesswork out of finding healthier recipes and gives parents the information and the tools they need to make healthy choices for their families every day."

The new collaboration is part of Michelle Obama's efforts to fight childhood obesity. Titled "Let's Move," the initiative has been in place for three years. On Wednesday Feb. 27 the First Lady begins a tour in support of the initiative, starting with an event in Clinton, Miss. and featuring celebrity cook Rachael Ray.

In January the cooking websites received 150 million views. There are 18 websites total on which 3,000 recipes have been posted. The recipes can be found on sites such as Allrecipes.com, CountryLiving.com, FoodNetwork.com, Myrecipes.com, RealSimple.com, Recipe.com, Redbook.com and Everyday with Rachael Ray.
