New Oreo Separating Machine 'Atomizes' Creme, Shoots It In Your Face

Nabisco's viral Cookie vs. Crème series has already one-upped itself — with a "frosting atomizer."

The company's thinly-veiled marketing campaign blasted onto the scene last month via Portland-based physicist and copywriter David Neevel. His hatchet-based separator took the Internet by storm, and his battle cry is immortalized on YouTube: "This crème's no good — let's get it off the cookie."

Although Neevel's design lacks some of the aesthetic grace that screams from Barry Kudrowitz and Bill Fienup's new machine, it was definitely no less Rube Goldberg-esque.

On Sunday, Nabisco released the second video in the series. It features two toy scientists from Minnesota and their six-step cookie-separating machine.

"Our goal is to help people separate the Oreo and save their favorite parts — for eating," the inventors say.

The device activates when a user places an Oreo, or stack of Oreos, on a hydraulic platform, which lowers itself into the separation mechanism. It is here where the stack of cookies will be "singulated."

The user's head must then be placed near the device's base, where a small robotic arm pushes the top cookie into the user's mouth.

Next, direct heat is applied to the Oreo, softening the cookie's crème and enhancing pliability. The stage is now set for the most important and spectacular step: "atomization" of the frosting.

Unfortunately, this part of the process still has some kinks left to work out. Currently, "atomization" is accomplished through a short burst of air that seems to propel the frosting chaotically into the user's face.

As the clip clearly demonstrates however, the machine's ability to separate and clean off America's favorite cookie remains unparalleled, whether or not it makes a mess around your mouth in the process.

Like the previous video, this one is accompanied by several warnings that urge people to not attempt the mechanized separation of Oreos themselves. DIY-enthusiasts are forewarned.
