Volvo Showcases Their FH-540 Dual Gearbox Truck

The challenge is for the truck to drive the demanding mountain pass with ease while pulling a paraglider and making sure that he stays on the air until he reaches his destination. For the challenge, Volvo decided to use their FH-540 truck that is powered by a 13liter D13 Euro 6 engine and is equipped with the I-Shift Dual Clutch transmission. In order to maintain the paraglider in the air, the truck needs to drive through the mountain with inclines, corners, and an underpass while maintaining speed.

Professional paraglider Guillaume Galvani and truck driver Louise Marriot collaborated to make the stunt work. The two professionals constantly communicated in order to gain control and to ensure that the stunt is done safely and properly. Galvani directed Marriot at times when he is losing altitude. The truck driver also had to maintain speed even when entering near sharp corners and makes sure that the truck does not lose momentum. With both professional skills and a reliable truck, the team was successful in achieving this first ever done stunt.

Volvo was able to highlight their FH-540 truck and was able to show that the truck, with its dual gearbox, can maintain speeds and that its performance and drivability is second to none in terms of weight and size.
